Mark Bassett has worked in healthcare advisory and leadership roles for over 35 years including as Group Director of Public Policy at Bupa Group.  In addition to supporting Bupa, Mark has worked for a broad range of organisations including the NHS and the Department of Health.

At the start of his career, he worked as a Planning Manager at West Hertfordshire Health Authorities and served as Health Policy Researcher to Lord Kilmarnock and Mrs Rosie Barnes MP, Social Democratic Party Health Spokespeople. 

In 1994, he joined the Department of Health and supported Ministers’ work in Parliament and relations with NHS Chairmen in South Thames for nearly two years before leading the team responsible for national policy on independent healthcare, NHS HCHS charges, sponsorship of NHS representative organisations (NAHAT and NHS Trust Federation) and NHS “welfare” issues. He supported the Blair Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review on NHS charging policy. Mark then worked for Bupa Group (1998-2010) where he served as Head of Public Policy and then Group Director of Public Policy.  In this role, he built up Bupa’s public policy analysis, research and government relations activities in the UK, EU and international markets.

Since 2011, Mark has undertaken a broad range of consultancy work in the UK and internationally including for the World Bank Group, the World Health Organisation, the Private Healthcare Information Network, the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) International and the Asian Development Bank.
