1. House of Lords to Examine if the Office For Nuclear Regulation is ready for Brexit.

The House of Lords’ EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee has announced that on 11 July 2018 it will be questioning representatives from the Office for Nuclear Regulation to assess its readiness for Brexit.

2. Minister to be questioned on nuclear waste disposal guidance.

On 10 July 2018 a variety of witnesses, including Energy Minister, Richard Harrington MP, will be questioned on the draft National Policy Statement for Geological Disposal Infrastructure by the House of Commons’ Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee.

3. The APPG for nuclear energy welcomed the nuclear sector deal.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Nuclear Energy has welcomed the Nuclear Sector Deal agreed between the UK government and the civil nuclear sector.

4. Magnox to become Nuclear Decommissioning Authority subsidiary.

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has announced that Magnox Ltd will become a subsidiary of the NDA from 1 September 2019.

5. Empty nuclear fuel skips remobed from the first generation Magnox storage pond.

A technological breakthrough by Sellafield Ltd and Barrnon has led to the creation of containers that can safely store skips elsewhere on site, meaning for the first time ever they can be moved from the Pond – one of the most hazardous facilities in Europe.
